Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has launched an inspection campaign on bakeries in various parts of the emirate, which supply food items to school canteens.

This is part of its efforts to guarantee supply of safe food to students, an ADFCA press release said on Wednesday.

The campaign was a joint move by various ADFCA food control units in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region.

The objective of the inspection campaign is to confirm the bakeries’ compliance with ADFCA rules and food safety requirements, said Mohammad Jalal Al Raisi, Director of Communications and Community Service Division at ADFCA.

“We are committed to ensure that only safe food is supplied to our school canteens,” he said.

The inspections are carried out in the morning hours to closely watch practices followed in the facilities while preparing food for school canteens.

Inspectors found certain shortcomings with regard to general cleanliness and food safety-related practices such as heaping up food items and using cheese that does not carry product labels.

Workers at the facilities were given instructions by ADFCA inspectors on good practices to be followed while preparing and handling food items. facilities.
