Dubai: In light of the International Labour Day, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai organised celebrations honouring the city’s workforce on Sunday at the land port border premises.

The celebration was held in the attendance of almost 2500 workers and representatives from Dubai Police Human rights, Dubai Courts, Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs (PCLA), Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities among others.

During the event, several activities were launched including recreational games, entertainment spots, competitions and the distribution of t-shirts, juices and snacks.

The PCLA, in cooperation with the Community Development Authority, also celebrated the International Labour Day on Friday at the Dulsco company premises.

Major General Obaid Muhair Bin Surour, Acting Director of the General Directorate of Residency and foreigners Affairs in Dubai and head of the PCLA said on Sunday, “Celebrating the International Labour Day reflects our gratefulness to the labourers of Dubai. We are all workers and we are all here to serve our country.”

Maj Gen Bin Surour appreciated the efforts of all the workers in the UAE, saying that they are key players in the development of the country.

He said the PCLA is keen to cooperate with strategic partners, federal and local governments and the private sector in order to protect labourers rights.

Abdul Momen Al Medawi, Coordinator of the PCLA, said the weekend events are part of the PCLA one week celebration to mark International Labour day.

“We want workers to be happy and we want them to know that we care about them because they are part of our life,” said Al Medawi.

In addition, the PCLA distributed wristwatches and other gifts to workers on the occasion of International Labour day.
