Abu Dhabi: The UAE is fighting a war against extremism and the country will stand ready in the face of any threat to its national security and the security of the region, a minister said on Monday.

In an interview broadcast by several TV channels, Dr Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of the National Media Council (NMC), said: “The death of a squad of our soldiers taking part in the Arab Coalition’s Operation Restoring Hope will only strengthen our determination and resolve to continue performing our moral and military duty to liberate Yemen from rebel militias.”

“We have started seeing signs of victory through successful attacks and victories achieved by the courage of our troops,” he added.

Al Jaber paid tribute to the martyrs, expressing his sincere condolences and sympathy to the UAE’s wise leadership, the Armed Forces and the families of the martyrs.

He stressed that the main objective of the UAE’s participation in the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia is to back the legitimate government of Yemen and to achieve security and stability in Yemen and the region.

Speaking about the UAE’s attention and focus on economic and social development issues with its involvement in the war, Al Jaber said that stability and security are the essential pillars of economic and social development and the economic superiority and leading development model achieved by the UAE in various fields will not continue without the courage and sacrifices of its sons.

Commenting on the performance of national media organisations to cover the war in Yemen, he said that the NMC is in continuous and direct contact with media institutions and stakeholders, adding, “I have personally witnessed the ability of our national media to assume its role and responsibilities in difficult circumstances and adversity through maintaining credibility as it delivers the right messages with utmost transparency and precision at this sensitive time.”

He stressed his confidence that Emirati media professionals have a national sense, full knowledge and awareness which in turn would entitle them to carry out their tasks in the best way.

Speaking about the aid and relief since the start of Operation Decisive Storm and then Operation Restoring Hope, which the UAE confirmed will accompany military support for the Yemeni legitimacy by providing help and support to the Yemeni people, Al Jaber stressed that the priorities of the UAE are the same without any change and “our goal is to liberate Yemen and restore legitimacy”.

He added that His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, confirmed that liberating Yemen from the militias is our goal.
