New York: The UAE on Saturday stressed the continuing development of its national policies, legislative systems and operational procedures aimed to combat acts of terrorism in all forms and manifestations.

During his participation in the Fourth Review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, Mohammad Ali Al Shamsi, a member of the UAE’s delegation participating in the review, said that terrorism today is the greatest threat to international peace and security, regardless of the time and place.

During the discussion, which takes place every two years, Al Shamsi reviewed the efforts made by the UAE to keep up with the global war on terrorism, noting that the country has continued to develop its national policies to combat all kinds of terrorism and other related phenomena.

He pointed to Federal Law No 1 of 2004 on Combating Terrorism Offences, which is following up and enforcing Security Council resolutions on combating terrorism and other related international resolutions in coordination with concerned bodies in the State.

Al Shamsi stressed that the UAE has taken several measures to ensure the strict tracking down of the perpetrators of terrorist crimes.

He also renewed the UAE’s stance of supporting all political efforts aimed to resolve differences, conflicts and spreading the culture of tolerance and peace, and promoting convergence between religions and civilisations.

He reiterated the UAE’s support for holding an international conference to define terrorism and to differentiate between it and people’s efforts for self-determination, stressing the need to take into consideration full commitment to the universal principles of international humanitarian law when implementing measures to combat terrorism.
