Abu Dhabi: The UAE has always been a peace advocate and is doing its best to respect human rights, citizenship and combat discrimination, hatred, extremism and nepotism, said Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance and chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the International Institute for Tolerance.

Shaikha Lubna made her remarks on Wednesday on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, which is being celebrated around the world under the theme “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

Shaikha Lubna stressed that the UAE has played a global leading role towards entrenching tolerance and peace values and achieving coexistence locally, regionally and internationally.

“The UAE people are inspired by the firm national approach to sustain the values of tolerance and peace whose foundations were laid by the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the founding fathers. The UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has become an incubator for fraternity and harmony,” She added.

Shaikha Lubna praised the regional and international efforts being made by the UAE to uphold the value of peace as a prominent human quality. She also referred to some legal, social and cultural procedures which have been made by the UAE to serve the entire humanity.

Each year, the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
