Abu Dhabi: UAE Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan will go to India on a two-day visit from September 2.

During his visit, he will meet Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister of India, as a follow-up meeting to discuss what has been agreed on between both the countries’ leaderships during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day trip to the UAE, said an Indian official.

“The meetings will tackle several matters pertaining to investment and trade, energy, infrastructure, defence and security, among others,” Mohammad Shahid Alam, second secretary at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, told Gulf News.

“Even though this visit was pre-scheduled earlier this year, Prime Minister Modi’s trip to the UAE sparked further collaboration and commitment between the two countries and triggered this visit to finally happen,” he added.

The strategic relationship between UAE and India continues to grow from strength to strength, particularly following a visit by an Indian prime minister to Abu Dhabi after 34 years, an official told Gulf News.

On September 2, an official meeting between high-level delegations will take place to discuss a number of topics and on September 3, a ministerial- level meeting as well as an interactive session will be held, which will feature businessmen from India and the UAE to discuss potential trade ties, Mohammad added.

Officials from the banking, tourism and energy sectors as well as representatives from diverse fields such as finance, health, education, civil aviation and agriculture from the two countries will all take part.

“We are very positive about all of these meetings. Both sides continue to exert efforts and are aiming to work towards the joint statement to extend their relationship further,” he said.

The joint statement reinforces India’s relationship with the UAE as one that is both strategic and central, Mohammad explained.
