Abu Dhabi: The UAE Cabinet approved on Sunday a number of initiatives to develop the health sector in the UAE.

During the Cabinet meeting chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Cabinet approved launching an initiative to make the nursing vocation more appealing and a programme on the early detection of cancer. The initiative and programme are in line with the UAE’s strategy and vision to enhance the standard of health-care services.

“We will continue to launch initiatives to develop the health-care sector. Our goal is to make a community happy and serve it within a healthy environment,” said Shaikh Mohammad.

The initiative will be overseen by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, and aims to attract national cadres and boost the appeal of the nursing vocation.

The initiative will introduce a programme to boost the number of qualified Emirati nursing cadres who are capable of providing exceptional health-care services.

The programme will be implemented in cooperation with strategic education partners, health authorities, and media institutions.

As for cancer detection programme for Emiratis, the programme aims to detect cancer during the early stages and raise awareness among members of the community on ways to prevent the disease.

The programme will work on providing preventive and treatment services for the purpose of reducing the number of cancer patients, as well as encouraging cancer research and studies. It will also provide a unified system for information and statistics for all medical institutions in the UAE.

The Cabinet approved the 100-day work plan of the Ministry of State for Youth, which Shaikh Mohammad was recently briefed on.

The plan comprises a number of initiatives and programmes that include setting up youth councils across the UAE and launching a guideline on youth values, which will serve as a reference for education and media content in shaping the consciousness of Emirati youth.

The Cabinet approved setting up a UAE Embassy in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, and Victoria, the capital of Seychelles.

The cabinet ratified and signed a number of agreements, such as five agreements on avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion with Romania, Andorra, Bermuda, Mauritania and Senegal.

Other agreements on encouraging and protecting investments with Andorra, Mauritius and Comoros Islands were ratified by the Cabinet, as well as an agreement on economic and technical cooperation with Angola, an aviation services agreement with Cuba, and international land transportation of goods with Bahrain.
