Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Thursday inaugurated the Islamic Manuscripts House at Al Qasimia University, in the presence of Shaikh Abdullah Bin Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

Dr Shaikh Sultan inspected the facilities in the two-storey house, which has been designed according to best international specifications in areas of document preservation and restoration, archiving, and classification.

Dr Shaikh Sultan also reviewed manuscripts displayed in the lobby of the House, which include ones dating back to the fifth century.

The rare manuscripts were collected by Dr Shaikh Sultan during his visits to various countries and presented to Al Qasimia University.

The House, built in an Islamic style, covers an area of 2,800 square metres.

During the opening ceremony, Dr Shaikh Sultan honoured Juma Al Majid, chairman of the Dubai Economic Council and founder of Juma Al Majid Group, and Abdul Wahid Al Nabawi, Egypt’s Minister of Culture, for their efforts in preserving manuscripts and historical documents.

The ceremony was attended by Shaikh Salem Bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office; Shaikh Saif Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Director of Sharjah University City; Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Community Protection; Khawla Abdul Rahman Al Mulla, Chairperson of the Sharjah Consultative Council; Rashid Bin Ahmad Al Shaikh, Head of the Amiri Diwan; Khamis Bin Salem Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Suburbs and Villages Affairs; Abdullah Mohammad Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information; Dr Tareq Sultan Bin Khadim, Chairman of the Human Resources Department; Saeed Musabah Al Kaabi, Chairman of Sharjah Education Council; as well as a number of dignitaries, sheikhs, directors of government departments, writers and specialists.
