Cairo: The Arabic Language Academy has been founded in Sharjah not only to be a branch but to improve and support Arabic academies in the Arab world morally and financially, said His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah.

Dr Shaikh Sultan made these remarks during a meeting of members of the Union of Arab Scientific Language Academies, which was held on Tuesday in Cairo.

The Ruler of Sharjah reiterated that the Arabic language historical dictionary project has been launched to improve, advance and maintain Arabic for next generations.

Praising the establishment of a new Arabic Language Academy in Mauritania, Dr Shaikh Sultan vowed to launch endowment projects to guarantee a sustained funding source for all academies across the Arab world.

“We recognised that there are so many things that need financial and moral support and for that purpose, we decided to open an academy in Sharjah,” he added.

The meeting was attended by Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Egypt, and other senior officials.
