Sharjah: Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD) has launched ‘Tahdeeth,’ a statistical project that aims to provide a comprehensive database on the living conditions of the emirate’s citizens.

A first-of-its-kind activity from DSCD, Tahdeeth will update demographic information about citizens and assess their living conditions based on the results of the Sharjah Census 2015. The project will utilise the latest international statistical techniques and methods for data gathering, with the ultimate aim being to enhance the well-being of residents in the emirate.

“DSCD works according to a practical methodology to provide a precise database that contributes to monitoring and assessing economically and socially, the living conditions of the emirate’s citizens,” said Shaikh Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of DSCD.

The DCSD Chairman underlined the significant impact that the population census conducted in 2013 and 2015 has had on the development of services that meet the needs of community members. He stressed the department’s commitment to full transparency in the dissemination of the collected data, a principle that is reflected in the adoption of sophisticated techniques that contribute to maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of information.

DSCD has urged Emirati citizens in Sharjah to cooperate in the implementation of Tahdeeth by providing their family information. The project will update data about seven social categories; children without parents, widows, divorced and abandoned women, people with disabilities, older people, those who have never attended school and job seekers. The updated information will be submitted to competent authorities to assess their conditions and to gain a comprehensive knowledge of their situations to guide strategic decisions taken by the emirate with regards to the health, social, economic and housing domains, among others.

DSCD will collect the required data by way of phone calls supported by electronic systems, through smart mobiles and devices and via instant messaging applications and emails. It will contact about 25,000 Emirati families from October 8 until December 4 to update their data. The information will include changes in circumstances that have happened since the Sharjah Census 2015.

The department has urged citizens to comply with the process by sending a copy of the two sides of their family registration books and IDs, as well as other requested documents, via its WhatsApp application or by email to ensure the smooth facilitation of the data collection procedure.

DSCD was tasked with carrying out a comprehensive population survey in 2013 and then conducted the general census of population and housing in 2015. The department says that the launch of the Tahdeeth project two years after the last population census is necessary to update demographic information about the emirate’s citizens in order to establish targeted systems and procedures that will improve living conditions.
