Abu Dhabi: Al Ain Zoo has announced the opening of its first tourism projects of 2016, represented by the Shaikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre and Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort for visitors on Wednesday.

Al Ain Zoo director-general Ganem Al Hajeri said at a press conference held on Monday at the Zayed Desert Learning Centre in Al Ain, “These two projects deemed among the largest tourism projects in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, are a culmination of the zoo’s efforts to establish vital tourism projects that make Al Ain city an attractive major leisure destination in the emirate.”

Al Hajeri said the centre, which spans 12,500 square metres, provides a comprehensive description of the desert environment of Abu Dhabi as well as the tradition and efforts to preserve the environment and sustainability agenda. He added that the centre has been awarded an international certificate in the sustainability field.

He noted that the Shaikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre honours the legacy of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in preserving the rich environmental heritage, understanding the nature of the desert and the realisation of its value to preserve and protect it.

Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort project, Al Hajeri said, spreads over an area of 217 hectares, including the future expansion of the safari, which will include significant additions to the project, such as an elephant sanctuary, Arab safari, and an Asian safari, to become the largest man-made safari in the world.

He added that visitors will be able to watch more than 400 wild animals daily, while living their normal lives, without cages or restrictions. Al Hajeri noted that this will be an exciting and unique experience for visitors.

Al Hajeri said that these projects contribute to raising the awareness of visitors about wildlife and bringing joy to them through available experiences at the Shaikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre and Al Ain Safari.
