Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, yesterday visited Masdar City.

Shaikh Mohammad said that the UAE, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has become a centre of creativity and development in the area of international renewable energy through the efforts made to develop capabilities throughout a varied mix of resources which safeguards keeping up with economic and social developments and maintains a great future for the UAE and achieves sustainable development.

Strategic initiative

Shaikh Mohammad also stressed that Masdar is a national project and a strategic initiative with long-range economic and political aspects aimed at developing and applying renewable energy solutions and clean energy techniques through a local and international package of projects that will improve the status of energy on an international level.

He also pointed out that Masdar's achievements in the very short period since it started is proof of the correct path taken and its stable and prosperous advance.

During his visit accompanied by Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, Shaikh Mohammad also said the UAE has been providing the world with energy for five decades. He added that the UAE, based on its commitment as a major energy supplier, works to enhance capabilities in the area of renewable energy to keep up with the continued growth in energy demand and as a contribution in maintaining the environment and protecting it.

Shaikh Mohammad stressed the importance of maintaining energy security through an overall comprehensive plan which contributes to enhancing the national economic foundations, transferring knowledge and technology, and transforming the country from one which imports technology to a country which is a partner in devising, making and exporting it across the globe.
