Abu Dhabi: Ninety eight prisoners of different nationalities that have served sentences at UAE’s correctional and punitive facilities are now being assisted by the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation to settle their outstanding financial commitments.

The foundation is also procuring air tickets for them to be transported back to their home countries.

Having completed their sentences, the inmates will be reunited with their families during Ramadan, well in time to celebrate Eid in their home countries.

The initiative is a collaboration between the Khalifa Bin Zayed Foundation and the UAE Ministry of Interior as an act of benevolence exemplifying the core values and ideologies of the UAE and of Ramadan. The UAE Ministry of Interior affords any and every assistance to the foundation in their endeavours in support of inmates and is indispensable to the successful completion of the programme.

The Director-General of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Foundation, Mohammad Haji Al Khoori, said: “This auspicious month will see the liberation of the released prisoners who hail from 12 countries and who will soon re-join their families.

“The foundation is keen to promote its values as an organisation that is truly inspired by the spirit of Ramadan. Bringing people together in harmony by reuniting these prisoners with their loved ones will be an integral part of our focus. We at the foundation believe that every one of these prisoners deserves an opportunity to restructure their lives and to be able to provide them with this opportunity during the most noble month of the Islamic calendar is key to our core values.”

Additionally, he added that since most of these prisoners hail from low-income families, the lack of funds to make their way back to their respective countries would add to their existing burdens. Therefore, the foundation considers such acts of benevolence as a paramount part of its existence based on its philanthropic values and morals.”

The Khalifa Bin Zayed Foundation sponsored the passage of 120 inmates in 2012 and is also actively involved in various other humanitarian initiatives that provide assistance to people all over the world, irrespective of religion, race, or gender.
