ABU DHABI: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), emphasised the commitment of the UAE, led by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the support of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to international humanitarian principles and continued support for the underprivileged everywhere.

In his remarks on the occasion of the UAE’s ranking as the world’s largest donor of humanitarian aid in 2016, Shaikh Hamdan stressed the country’s keenness on enhancing its humanitarian efforts across the globe and going steadily to follow the same approach aimed to reduce the human suffering and preserve human dignity.

He added that the UAE plays a pivotal role in rallying support for the humanitarian issues that have impact on a number of peoples affected by disasters and crises.

He also added that the country’s contributions and legacy in this field have enabled it to occupy advanced ranking in delivery of Official Development Assistance. Shaikh Hamdan renewed the country’s commitment towards its humanitarian responsibilities for those affected by catastrophes and crises, stressing the UAE’s pivotal role to improve living conditions and safeguard human dignity around the world.

He also highlighted the country’s constant efforts to reduce poverty, hunger, malnutrition and the suffering in the developing countries by providing the basic life requirements for those who are in need, especially food.

He added that the country has made significant contributions in the implementation of vital development projects to support fragile societies by provision of health, education, infrastructure and other services and assistance. Shaikh Hamdan stressed that the UAE spares no efforts to boost its pioneering role at the international humanitarian work by meeting the needs of victims of disputes and catastrophes.
