Dubai: An online social club has been the creative force behind an innovative touchstone for residents who wanted to express their appreciation to His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Thanks to You campaign, which ended yesterday coinciding with Shaikh Mohammad’s Accession Day was a popular venue at Dubai Mall, where residents laid flower bouquets of gratitude.

“I was visiting Dubai Mall on January 1 and saw this display of flowers, so I immediately got my very own bouquet and put it on the display, but there were no signs that read who it was done by. I thought it was a great movement and decided to share it on not only my social media contacts, but also the platform we created called Think Up,” said Saleh Al Braik, founder of Think Up online social club.

“In less than an hour, tweets were flowing in and the movement began,” he pointed out.

On his twitter account, the Ruler of Dubai expressed that on the anniversary of his accession – January 4 - residents should celebrate the hard work of unskilled workers and let them know that their services are appreciated and that they make our lives richer.

Shaikh Mohammad urged residents to thank workers who keep the emirate running whether it be the gardener, the person who sweeps the streets or taxi drivers and bus drivers,

In response to the Thanks to You campaign, twitter was flooded over the last few days with photos of people, companies and government departments from across the country who gave thanks to their unskilled workers.

The podium read yesterday; “Thank you, Shaikh Mohammad for your kindness,” and was on display to mark the anniversary of Shaikh Mohammad’s accession. Twitter users have spread the event under #ThankYouHHShkMohd and encouraged others to follow the movement.

@Njood_UAE wrote: “Flowers are merely a token of thanks to the amazing leader you are: We’ll forever be proud of you,” while another twitter user, @MeeraAl Awadhi, wrote: “Place a bouquet of flowers at The Dubai Mall as a simple gesture to Shaikh Mohammad. Let’s all thank Shaikh Mohammad by placing flowers at Dubai Mall.”

@AlShaibanMarwa wrote, “Show your love and appreciation by dedicating flowers to Shaikh Mohammad at Dubai Mall until January 4. There are a million reasons to be thankful, and now there’s a way to show it.”
