Abu Dhabi: As many as 75,000 citizens and expatriates have benefited from the Emirates Red Crescent’s projects implemented in Sharjah last year.

Costing Dh16 million, the Emirates Red Crescent’s (ERC) projects provided a humanitarian assistance to inmates, patients, needy people, orphans, students, and people of determination. During Ramadan 2017, the ERC implemented the Ramadan Meer Project, Ramadan Tents Project, distribution of Zakat Al Fitr to needy people among other projects.

The ERC also provided financial support to some public and private institutions as well as the ERC partners working in the humanitarian field.

Abdullah Ali Ganem Al Muhairi, Director of the ERC Branch in Sharjah, said the total financial support provided in 2017 by the ERC Sharjah branch amounted to Dh16 million benefiting 75,000 people of Sharjah citizens and expats.

The lion’s share of the fund has gone to medical aid with Dh4.364 million benefiting 207 families and 643 individuals, followed by educational assistance with Dh4.42 million benefiting 1,091 families, 5,897 individuals and 1,296 students.

More than 1,537 families and 6,958 individuals were helped by the ERC humanitarian aid which reached Dh3.721 million while 45 families and 372 individuals benefited from the inmates aid which amounted to Dh964,000.

The ERC carried out the Ramadan Meer Project in Sharjah at a cost of Dh449,000 benefiting 714 families and 2,972 individuals, while Zakat Al Fitr project helped 554 families and 2,306 individuals through Dh440,000.

More than 68,970 families and 68,970 individuals benefited from six Ramadan Tents Project, which was implemented at a total cost of Dh775,000. People of determination also benefited from the ERC’s projects where the ERC allocated Dh493,000 for 58 families, 265 individuals and 60 students.
