Ras Al Khaimah: Ras Al Khaimah authorities averted a disaster as a container ship came dangerously close to crashing into the Ras Al Khaimah bridge amid strong winds and rain that lashed the area on Friday.

The ship’s anchor gave way in the storm-like conditions, an official at Ras Al Khaimah Police told Gulf News. The captain and the crew of the ship had dropped anchor at Ras Al Khaimah Customs and Ports a few days ago.

On Friday, as stormy winds lashed the area, the ship’s anchor snapped and swells pushed it towards Khor Al Qawasim and Ras Al Khaimah bridge and it drifted dangerously close to Ras Al Khaimah Bridge.

Quick intervention by Ras Al Khaimah authorities however helped avert a disaster. All security authorities including, police, the rescue division, and the public works department, in addition to local fishermen, worked in tandem and tugged the vessel away in the nick of time, avoiding a potential collision with the Ras Al Khaimah bridge.

The vessel was later guided back into port.
