Rome: Pope Francis on Wednesday received a UAE delegation led by Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance.

The delegation is currently visiting the Vatican.

Pope Francis and Shaikha Lubna discussed with Jean-Louis Pierre Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in the Roman Curia, avenues of joint cooperation and ways to promote the values of tolerance globally, entrench the principles of dialogue between various religions and cultures to ensure the happiness of humanity.

The talks also touched on ways to enhance international solidarity in the face of the outbreak of hate speech, extremism and violence on the global scale.

They underlined that people are equal, and there is no discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, gender, sect and social class.

Shaikha Lubna emphasised the approach of tolerance embraced by the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

She highlighted the importance of extending bridges of communication and dialogue between various religions, cultures and peoples, and the joint action to deepen the channels of understanding to bolster values of tolerance, peace, coexistence, acceptance and respcting others.
