Abu Dhabi: Plans for developing Al Rahba area’s Sharia Park are in full swing and will include a range of facilities such a woman’s health centre, spa and swimming pool, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality announced today (Tuesday).

Located beside Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Highway (E11) between Abu Dhabi and Dubai at the intersection with Al Ajban Street (E16) near Al Rahba city, the Sharia Park will be a public facility for women and children. It will span a total area of 380,000 square metres, the municipality sad.

The municipality is currently accepting tenders from interested companies for the development of the facility.

“The ultimate goal of this drive is to deliver stylish services in an optimal environment capable of bringing happiness and serving the welfare of residents, besides aiding sustainable development in the infrastructure of Abu Dhabi,” a statement by the municipality said.

Located near vital communities such as Kizad, Yas Island, Saadiyat and the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque, it will feature a women’s health centre and spa, a women’s swimming pool and health club, playgrounds, multi-purpose halls, shaded children’s playground, camping and barbeque areas and a nursery.

The municipality anticipates the zone becoming home to equestrian activities, falcons and desert biking, among others.

“The idea of the project revolves around several key elements, including the construction of a sparkling dome, new hospitality elements such as a boutique hotel and a business hotel, festivity hall, retail outlets, markets, restaurants, and cafes. These facilities will be integrated with the Royal Park, Desert Park, District Park and Fun Water Games through a host of events and activities over a total floor area of 50,000 metres. These elements will be constructed in a way that will meet the objectives of the project in nurturing a high-class and fully fledged entertainment environment,” the statement added.

Finally, a covered, air-conditioned market and the Shaikh Zayed Heritage Yard, which will depict the story of the Sharia Park in an “innovative media style”, will also be part of the upcoming project.

“The most exciting element will be the splash park which includes water games, swimming pool, swimming lessons, recreational facilities, and the district park …. and offers an area for staging recreational and family activities, among other community events,” the municipality added.
