Oslo: Saeed Mohammad Al Shamsi, Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister for international organisation affairs, has affirmed the UAE’s keen interest in promoting humanitarian work to alleviate the suffering of people around the world, in line with the directives of the country’s leadership.

In remarks at a joint UAE-Norway humanitarian workshop, the official said the UAE’s efforts are aimed at combating poverty, hunger, epidemics, diseases, to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for 2015.

He also highlighted the UAE’s humanitarian leadership through the United Nations agencies.

Underlining coordination between the UAE and Norway on countering humanitarian crises, the official said the two countries are laying the foundations stone for joint humanitarian action.

The humanitarian efforts being made by the UAE internationally were also praised by Gry Larsen, the State Secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of International Development, as effective contribution to mitigating humanitarian crises.

Representatives of the UAE Ministry of Development and International Cooperation, humanitarian agencies of the UAE and Norway took part in the workshop.

Participants discussed logistic and other challenges to humanitarian relief operations and ways to bolster cooperation and coordination on humanitarian action.
