Abu Dhabi: The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police has completed its preparations for the new academic year 2017-2018, as part of the ‘Amana Student Safety’ campaign and has prepared a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure the movement of students to and from schools.

In accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017 on traffic control rules and procedures Article 90, if the driver of a school bus does not display the stop sign on the bus at a stop, he will be fined Dh500 along with six black points. And as per Article 91, if the motorist doesn’t stop despite seeing a stop on a school bus, he will be fined Dh1,000 with 10 black points.

Brigadier Khalifa Mohammad Al Khaili, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of Abu Dhabi Police, stressed that the directorate has taken strict measures to ensure the safety of students and the smooth flow of traffic in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.

He pointed out that the integrated traffic plan includes the distribution of traffic patrols on intersections, internal and external roads in the city. The patrols around the schools will be increased for the safety of students.

He also urged the parents to drop their children at the designated stops and to make sure that children under the age of 10 or under 140 centimetres of height are to be seated in the rear.

“The drivers and guardians should be careful while passing through the streets near the schools. For the smooth flow of traffic one has to adhere to the speed limit, especially near schools and not cause traffic jams. It is mandatory to have a supervisor in each school bus with full knowledge of protecting and supervising students while boarding and exiting school bus,” said Al Khaili.
