Abu Dhabi: The national media plays a key role in the development progress of the UAE through highlighting the national developmental aspirations and putting the spotlight on the constructive ideas that contribute to further advancing the country.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, made these remarks during a meeting with editors-in-chief of local newspapers, national media industry leaders, and representatives of Arab and international news agencies, press and TV channels operating in the UAE.
Shaikh Mohammad stressed the UAE’s keenness to support media and make it able to perform its key roles in spite of the radical changes being witnessed in the Arab region and the world at large.
“The Emirati media discharges a pivotal role in projecting the bright image of the Emirati society’s culture and values which include tolerance, openness and moderation and briefing the whole world on the Emirati values to reinforce the positive image of the UAE on the international level,” he said, The Emirati media highlights the developmental and cultural achievements made by the UAE despite the adverse conditions being experienced in the region.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi expressed his confidence that the national media is able to defeat other misleading, twisting, and extremist media and is also able to debunk its untrue slogans.
During the meeting, which was held at Al Bateen Palace, Shaikh Mohammad and the media figures who were accompanied by Dr Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the National Media Council, exchanged Ramadan greetings.
“The national and Arab media assumes a historical responsibility represented by revealing the hiding face of extremists and unearthing their vile ideologies in order to immune the Arab and Islamic communities against all of their misleading ideas and propagandas,” Shaikh Mohammad underscored.
Shaikh Mohammad emphasised that the state of chaos and instability being experienced by the Arab media highlights the importance of the national media during this critical phase during which some sinister powers are misusing the social media to threaten the security of communities and demean their values and culture.
The proliferation of religious, sectarian and ethnic media, which draws a wedge between the sons of a single people, emphasises the importance of a moderate and balanced media, Shaikh Mohammad said. The media in all its forms plays a central role in the process of building all communities intellectually, culturally and even behaviourally.
Shaikh Mohammad called for continuing building Emirati media cadres that are able to lead the national media and make it competitive at all levels.
Extending their thanks, the media personalities expressed appreciation of the UAE’S wise vision that laid the foundation of dialogue and understanding in the UAE.
