Dubai: More than 12,000 volunteers from 29 countries have responded to the Mohammad Bin Rashid Arabic eLearning Project within two days of its launch.
Some 44 per cent of the total number of volunteers are women.
Egypt recorded the highest level of participation in the Arab world with 20 per cent, followed by the UAE and Saudi Arabia with 13.2 per cent each.
Algeria came in the fourth place with 11.7 per cent and Morocco came fifth with 7.6 per cent of the total number of participants.
Some 43.6 per cent of all participants hold bachelor degrees.
Early this week, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the project by introducing “The Translation Challenge”.
It aims to translate more than 5,000 educational videos and 11 million words within one year.

BY THE NUMBERS
The new eLearning project will provide free online educational material to more than 50 million students in the Arab world between Kindergarten and Grade 12 by the end of 2018.
Shaikh Mohammad made these remarks on Thursday during a ceremony organised by Nakheel Properties to announce its sponsorship of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Arabic e-learning Project throughout all stages.
“I am very proud of the challenge volunteers and Nakheel, which has adopted the whole project. The UAE’s national institutions and our humanitarian initiatives go hand in hand towards serving education and knowledge in our Arab world,” Shaikh Mohammad tweeted.
“Nakheel Properties is a leading national company and the end goal of the national, humanitarian and social responsibility is to bring about a new change in societies.
"The agreement signed with Nakheel lays solid foundations for partnerships between leading national institutions and major national initiatives,” said Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future and secretary-general of Mohammad Bin Rashid Global Initiative.
50 million students
He added that Nakheel’s endeavours to make a real difference in the lives of 50 million students is the highest and noblest value, which reflects the company’s culture, philosophy and leadership awareness.
