Dubai: Dubai issued more than 12 million entry visas to visitors during the first eleven months of 2015, a top official said on Monday.

Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, director-general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai, revealed these numbers during his speech at the Risk Management Society’s RIMS Risk Forum 2015 Middle East on Monday.

Maj Gen Al Merri said 42 million passengers used Dubai borders since the beginning of the year, adding that they expect this number to keep growing.

He said that more than 59 million different transactions were carried out by the department between January and November.

He said that the GDRFA-Dubai puts a lot of effort into creating a productive work environment and providing best services. The department had launched an initiative to allow some of its women employees to work from home.

They also have a service for the elderly, where the department sends an “Amer Car” to their homes to finish the needed paperwork

The GDRFA has 4,300 employees across Dubai, working in 27 different locations.

Mary Roth, executive director of RIMS, said that they were holding their first Middle East forum in Dubai as part their efforts to strengthen and support its international network of risk professionals.

She added that the two-day educational and networking event provides attendees with an update on the Middle East’s insurance market and will explore practical solutions to help practitioners advance their organisation’s risk management strategies.
