Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, visited Dubai Health Authority’s (DHA) head office, where he was briefed about the authority’s initiatives.

Shaikh Mohammad enquired about the flow of operations and improvements being made by the authority, as well as a number of vital projects and studies being prepared as part of the authority’s strategy for 2016-2021.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, was present.

Shaikh Mohammad listened to a presentation given by Humaid Bin Mohammad Al Qutami, Chairman of DHA, and assistants on plans and initiatives launched by the authority to improve health-care services.

The Vice-President was briefed on the authority’s costing system, which is implemented in hospitals and clinics to specify revenues and costs accrued in the treatment process and consumables used. It also compiles reports comparing treatment costs in the local and global markets in order to improve the quality of health-care services in the authority’s clinics and hospitals.

The presentation also outlined DHA’s ambitious development plan, work stages for implementing its strategy and steps taken by specialised development teams to improve the organisational performance assessment programme.

Shaikh Mohammad was also briefed about the medical file project ‘Salama’ that documents the relation and interaction between the doctor and the patient, in addition to the e-medical file project, ‘Nabedh’, which provides a unified file for a patient in the public and private sectors. The project links a patient’s medical information between health authorities concerned.

Shaikh Mohammad was then briefed on the Rashid Medical Complex project, which will be built in an area of over 600,000 square metres. The project aims to enhance and stimulate the medical tourism movement by 2020, attracting more than 500,000 tourists from the UAE and abroad. This will help Dubai in particular, and the UAE in general, become the favoured destination for medical tourism, particularly for people from the Middle East and North Africa.

The medical complex buildings will be in line with green buildings and sustainability criteria. It will also include residential units and five star hotels.

Shaikh Mohammad and his accompanying delegation then viewed a model of the project.

Shaikh Mohammad promised his support for DHA’s strategy for developing health-care services. He stressed his keenness on providing all forms of support that allows DHA to develop its establishments, plans, medical cadres and administrative staff. He also voiced his support for the ideal utilisation of medical equipment and technology to serve patients and achieve happiness for the people.

Shaikh Mohammad praised the efforts of the DHA’s chairman, board members and work teams, who continue to work diligently to improve standards of services rendered by its hospitals and clinics. Shaikh Mohammad called on them to focus on innovation, researches, studies, and training, particularly for Emirati cadres, doctors, nurses and technicians. He said that this will help Emirati cadres improve their performance, deal professionally with patients and learn about new advancements made in the field of medicine.
