Mohammad sets up Global Initiatives Foundation

Dubai - His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, Tuesday issued Law No. 33 of 2015 setting up the Mohammad Bin Rashid Global Initiatives Foundation, and stipulating its goals and specialisations.

Shaikh Mohammad issued Decree No. 41 of 2015 setting up the foundation’s Board of Trustees. The board will be chaired by Shaikh Mohammad, while Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, will serve as Vice Chairman. Board members include Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, Wife of Shaikh Mohammad.

The board of trustees is tasked with supervising the foundation’s operations, in addition to approving its annual budget.

Shaikh Mohammad also issued Decree No. 42 of 2015 appointing Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi as Secretary General of the Foundation, and Decree No. 43 appointing Saeed Mohammad Al Danhani as Assistant Secretary General.

Law No. 33 stipulated the foundation’s goals, which include support and bolstering the UAE’s comprehensive strategy in the field of humanitarian, development and social work through coordinated efforts. The foundation is tasked with spreading awareness about the importance of humanitarian, social and development work by coordinating with relevant bodies.

It will also work on improving the network of regional and international cooperation in the area of humanitarian and development work, and forging agreements, partnerships and Memorandums of Understanding, as well as issuing reports pertaining to the foundation’s operations in cooperation with governmental, regional and international bodies.

The law grants the foundation the authority to supervise and coordinate the initiatives, programmes and projects of relevant bodies, and forwards these reports to the Foundation’s chairman. The foundation will also prepare comprehensive strategic communication plan to link the initiatives of all relevant bodies and provide them with all forms of media support. It will also implement an integrated mechanism for information management, to identify initiatives and projects being carried out by relevant bodies.

The law also defines the relevant bodies as Noor Dubai Foundation, UAE Water Aid, Jalila Medical Research Centre, Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, Dubai Cares, Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Dubai’s Museum of the Future, Mohammad Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises, and International Humanitarian City.
