Abu Dhabi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday received Hassan Shaikh Mohamoud, President of Somalia, and his delegation at Beach Palace.

The leaders discussed fraternal relations between the two countries and ways to boost them to serve the interests of both nations and peoples.

Shaikh Mohammad and the Somali president reviewed bilateral relations and the central role of the UAE in carrying out development, economic and humanitarian projects in Somalia in order to help its people and provide them with all forms of support as well as to help them build their future and realise their aspirations.

Mohamoud briefed Shaikh Mohammad on the positive developments witnessed in Somalia, especially in the security field, but noted that the scourge of terrorism is still a threat that people face. He thanked Shaikh Mohammad for the UAE’s continuous support to establish security and stability in Somalia.

The leaders exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and ways to stimulate economic activities, especially in agriculture, animal resources, fisheries and transportation sector. They also discussed overall developments and issues of mutual concern.

Shaikh Mohammad wished Somalia every success and prosperity, saying that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan , will continue to be a major supporter for development projects being implemented in Somalia. He expressed the UAE’s solidarity with Somalia against security and stability challenges such as terrorism and extremism. Shaikh Mohammad praised the prominent role that the Somali president has played over the past four years.

Mohamoud expressed his gratitude to the UAE leadership for the sustained support and initiatives being implemented in Somalia to alleviate the suffering of the Somali people. He also thanked Shaikh Mohammad for his support to the progress seen in Somalia and for his efforts to enhance stability and security as well as to ensure the happiness of its people.

The meeting was attended by Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Mohammad Mubarak Al Mazroui, Undersecretary of the Crown Prince’s Court of Abu Dhabi.
