Baku: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Thursday met Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, at the Presidential Palace in Baku.

On his arrival, Shaikh Mohammad was accorded an official reception ceremony during which he and Aliyev inspected the guard of honour and the national anthems of both countries were played.

The Vice-President expressed his happiness at visiting Azerbaijan, and stressed that the UAE is keen on enhancing friendship and cooperation with all countries.

Welcoming Shaikh Mohammad, Aliyev said he was confident that the visit would yield positive results, which will in turn develop bilateral relations in all economic sectors, particularly investment partnerships.

Shaikh Mohammad and Aliyev attended the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding. The first agreement was on cooperation and exchange of information between the UAE’s Securities and Commodities Authority and Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Securities. It was signed by Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, and Samir Sharifov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Finance.

The second agreement on cooperation in emergencies between the National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations was signed by Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Kamaladdin Heydarov, Minister of Emergency Situations.

Shaikh Mohammad and Aliyev expressed hope that the signing of the agreement will serve as a step towards wider cooperation in various fields in order to achieve the desired communication that will benefit both countries and their people.

Present were Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs; Reem Ebrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State; Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, and other officials.
