CAIRO: The meeting between His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, consolidates efforts being made to promote tolerance as well as joint action to achieve peace for humanity, Shaikh Ahmad Al Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, said on Thursday.

In comments on Al Azhar’s official account on the microblogging site, Twitter, he said: “Joint efforts to achieve rapprochement between the East and the West must be intensified in order to build bridges for understanding to contribute to the achievement of just global peace which we all aspire to.”

Al Tayeb further expressed appreciation of the meeting which, he said, would support Al Azhar’s efforts in establishing dialogue on the foundations of mutual respect, acceptance of others, co-existence and the promotion of peace across the world, driven in particular by Pope Francis’ vision which looks at Islam in a fair way.
