Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Thursday received Serzh Sargsyan, President of Armenia.

Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, was present.

During the meeting held at Zabeel Palace, Shaikh Mohammad reaffirmed to Sargsyan the openness of UAE’s foreign policy to all friendly and peaceful nations and peoples. He said that the UAE’s leadership, government and people believe in those values, and consider them the foundations for building bilateral relations with countries of the world in areas of politics, economy and culture.

Sargsyan expressed his pride in the historic relations between the countries and peoples of the UAE and Armenia. He emphasised his country’s keenness to bolster these relations by forging permanent investment, besides economic and cultural partnerships that meet the aspirations of both countries and their peoples.

Sargsyan extended to Shaikh Mohammad an official invitation to visit the Armenian capital, Yerevan, an invitation which Shaikh Mohammad accepted.

Later, Shaikh Mohammad and Sargsyan attended the signing of a number of agreements, which represent a step forward towards broader cooperation in culture, tourism and economy.

An agreement in the field of security and anti-terrorism was signed by Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Edward Nalbandian, Armenia’s Foreign Minister.

Three memorandums of understanding were also signed. The MoU on scientific and technical cooperation was signed by Dr Ahmad Abdullah Humaid Bel Houl Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education, and Nalbandian. The second MoU pertaining to emergency preparedness was signed by Dr Jamal Mohammad Al Hosni, Director-General of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, and Nalbandian, while the third MoU on cooperation between the Federal Chamber of Commerce and Industry of both nations was signed by Mohammad Thani Al Rumaithi, Chairman of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and Martin Sargsyan, Chairman of the Armenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Shaikh Mohammad expressed his satisfaction with the MoUs signed and hoped that they will result in outcomes that benefit both nations and their peoples.

Present during the meeting were Reem Ebrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, and other Shaikhs and senior officials.
