Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received Enda Kenny, the Irish Prime Minister, and his accompanying delegation at Zabeel palace on Thursday morning.

Shaikh Mohammad and his guest exchanged talks regarding the overall political and economic situation at regional and international levels and ways to enhance the chances for peace and development, which are two basic elements in strengthening the foundations of stability of countries and people of the region and the world.

Shaikh Mohammad and Kenny also discussed relations of cooperation and historical friendship ties between the two countries and peoples.

Shaikh Mohammad stressed that the UAE adopts bridges of communication and cooperation with all countries, especially in the areas of economics, education, tourism and others in its leadership’s belief of the importance of cooperation in these areas that contribute to a broader rapprochement between people and communities in all their segments and components.

He also welcomed all positive steps towards building an expanded partnership between the UAE and Ireland in the benefit of the two countries and its people.

The Irish Prime Minister thanked Shaikh Mohammad for the hospitality he received and the opportunity to engage in dialogue with Shaikh Mohammad on many topics of common interest, particularly those related to expanding the horizons of cooperation between the two countries.

He praised the cultural, economic and social development achieved by the UAE on many levels and in various directions, he also noted the upscale level of infrastructure and diverse social and cultural scene, which is a unique feature of UAE’s society.

Shaikh Mohammad and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, witnessed with Enda Kenny the signing of a memorandum of understanding on higher education and scientific research between the UAE and Ireland.

The MoU was signed by Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Richard Bruton, Irish Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, which provides for closer ties between the two educational institutions by supporting joint agreements and encouraging both sides to hold seminars and conferences held in both countries

The MoU stated that the two parties seek to develop communication and cooperation and the exchange of visits between professors and academics, researchers and others in addition to supporting governmental scholarship students who wish to study in educational institutions of the other party, and encouraging both parties to exchange information on academic systems, qualifications, statistics and educational policies.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and CEO of Emirates airline and Group, Mohammad Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, Saqar Gobash Saeed Gobash, Minister of Labour, and other ministers and senior officials.
