Kuwait: The UAE Ministry of Labour and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) signed a technical cooperation agreement on the job market, labour inspection and labour dispute settlement information systems.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Arab Labour Organisation (ALO) conference taking place in Kuwait.

Saqr Gobash, Minister of Labour and Chairman of ALO, and Guy Rider, Director-General of ILO, were present.

The agreement was signed by Mubarak Saeed Al Daheri, Undersecretary at the ministry, and Frank Hagemann, Deputy Director for the ILO Regional Office for Arab States.

Gobash said that the agreement comes within the ministry’s framework to improve its capabilities and benefit from the technological expertise of ILO, which will contribute to developing some of the systems in use by the ministry, particularly the job market system that was introduced years ago. He said that the agreement will also introduce mechanisms for curbing the number of labour disputes and enhancing the ministry’s capabilities in settling these disputes. He added that it will also bolster capabilities of inspectors and inspection systems.

Rider said that the agreement emphasises the fact that the ministry is striving to further enhance its efficiency as part of its duties to manage the labour market and implement labour relations law.
