Dubai: Brave, heroic, righteous, disciplined, upright... these are some of the words used to describe Saif Yousuf Ahmad Al Falasi, the Emirati officer who was martyred in Yemen.

Dherar Bel Houl Al Falasi, a cousin of the martyr’s father and the director-general of Watani, praised Al Falasi’s valour and sacrifice for the UAE and said that he had succeeded in his mission in serving his country.

35-year-old Al Falasi was martyred while performing his national duty as part of the UAE Armed Forces’ participation in Operation Restoring Hope, led by Saudi Arabia, to support the legitimate government in Yemen, the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces announced on Tuesday.

“Saif was a great son and ideal father to his five children,” Dherar said. “He took good care of them and always made sure they got everything they needed. He was upright and righteous and we are happy that he had completed his mission even though we have lost him. He is a martyr.”

Dherar said Al Falasi’s family is going through a difficult time and that his father is not in good health.

“It is a hard time for his wife, mother and children because they have lost someone very close to them, but they believe in Allah’s destiny and are convinced that Saif had served his nation. We are all ready to stand up for our country at all times,” he said.

Dherar confirmed that Al Falasi’s funeral will take place after Tuesday’s isha prayers at the Alia Sultan Lootah mosque in Al Warqa 4.

The burial, he informed, would take place in Al Ghusais graveyard.
