Dubai: A doctor suffered a 25 per cent disability from a dislocated shoulder after being ran over by a vehicle driven by another man following a heated argument and a parking row.

The 49-year-old Syrian manager was alleged to have parked his car inappropriately in a villa compound in a way that was blocking the passageway while the Indian doctor was stuck in his vehicle waiting for the manager to remove his car. The incident took place in September.

The doctor waited for his neighbour, the manager, inside his car for a period of time, according to records, before they indulged in a heated argument when he scolded him from parking inappropriately.

The two men got involved in a physical altercation before the compound’s Indian security guard intervened and stopped the quarrel.

The doctor called up the police, but the Syrian manager did not want to wait and drove off.

When the doctor tried to stop him and asked him to wait for the police’s arrival, the 49-year-old continued driving and ran over the Indian.

Assault

Prosecutors accused the manager of assaulting the doctor and causing him a 25 per cent permanent disability in his shoulder.

The suspect pleaded not guilty and refuted his accusation when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

The suspect’s lawyer asked presiding judge Urfan Omar to summon prosecution witnesses to hear their statements.

Meanwhile the doctor’s lawyer asked the court to adjourn the hearing until she [the lawyer] submits a civil lawsuit [against the Syrian] in which her client is seeking Dh21,000 in compensation.

The doctor claimed to prosecutors that the suspect ran him over and injured his shoulder following an altercation over parking.

“He had left his car parked in a way that blocked the traffic flow inside the compound. I waited for him and when he came, we had a heated argument when we discussed the way he had parked.

"He assaulted me while I was still seated in my car … then I stepped out and tried to move him away from me.

"The security guard came and stopped us. I asked him to wait for the police after I had called them … when he drove off, he ran me over and disappeared. I sustained a dislocated shoulder,” he testified to prosecutors.

The trial continues.
