Dubai: Dubai Municipality’s Waste Management Department has added a modern cleaning system to its fleet by introducing ten new 240-litre vacuum cleaners, which can be operated by a single worker.
The move is part of the plan to renew the fleet to cater to the development boom by using mechanical brooms for gathering waste, Suhail Al Awadhi, acting head of Operations Section at the department, said in a press release.
More than ten workers used to work to clean up markets and areas between trees and areas that are difficult to reach between narrow alleys.
“The ten new vacuum cleaners have been put into service between Deira and Bur Dubai to reduce pressure on workers,” Al Awadhi said, adding that the Section has formulated an integrated plan to implement the highest standards of cleanliness in all areas of the Emirate.
Al Awadhi also appealed to the members of the community to cooperate with Dubai Municipality to maintain cleanliness in public places through safe practices and to abide by Municipality regulations and avoid attracting actions as per the provisions of the Local Order No. 11 of 2003 on Public Health and Community Safety in the Emirate of Dubai.
He added that in case of emergency, the public can contact Dubai Municipality through its Call Centre number 800900 and Waste Management Department offices at various locations in the emirate.
