Dubai: Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, yesterday (Tuesday) honoured the winners of the second edition of the Emirates Appreciation Award for the Environment.

The award was organised by the Ministry of Environment and Water in collaboration with the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment at Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai.

In opening remarks, Dr Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahd, Minister of Environment and Water, said that the award was established through an initiative by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support environmental programmes and individual and collective initiatives and to encourage institutions toward innovation and excellence in order to find sustainable solutions to environmental issues.

“Through the visions of our founding fathers, and by the support of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has made giant strides towards sustainable development in various fields by underpinning the environmental development and contributing to achieving the UAE strategic for the green development.” Bin Fahd said.

Shaikh Maktoum honoured the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology with the Innovation Award, Sharjah Media Cooperation with Environmental Awareness Award for media, and Ahmad Misbeh Al Nuaimi, teacher in Al Tafawoq School- Al Ain, with the Environmental Awareness Award for people and institutions.
