Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman: UAE leaders have pardoned 1,668 prisoners from corrective and punitive establishments ahead of 45th National Day to give them the opportunity to reintegrate into mainstream society.

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan pardoned 1,102 prisoners to give them an opportunity to start a new life and ease the suffering of their families.

Ali Mohammad Al Beloushi, Attorney-General of Abu Dhabi, said that the Public Prosecution in the emirate has begun the necessary release process, and expressed gratitude to Shaikh Khalifa for his decision, which he said was welcomed by all people in the country, both Emiratis and expatriates.

He also pointed out that this gesture will provide pardoned prisoners with an opportunity for a new lease of life, and called for other prisoners to demonstrate good behaviour to be given a chance of amnesty in the future.

In Dubai, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also ordered the release of 292 prisoners.

Dubai Attorney-General Essam Al Humaidan said that the humanitarian gesture reflects Shaikh Mohammad’s keenness to give the prisoners the opportunity to follow the right path and start a new life with their families.

Al Humaidan affirmed that Shaikh Mohammad’s orders would be carried out immediately. He added that the Public Prosecution has taken all the arrangements in coordination with Dubai Police to implement the orders.

His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, ordered the release of 105 prisoners. The pardon will apply to prisoners who displayed good conduct while serving their sentence.

His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, ordered the release of 122 prisoners. Shaikh Saud also settled the financial debts and liabilities of the released prisoners.

He said that the pardon would have a positive impact on the families of the pardoned prisoners who will have the opportunity to reintegrate into society as righteous members, and participate in the National Day celebrations.

His Highness Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, ordered the release of 47 inmates who demonstrated good conduct while serving their sentence.
