Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday congratulated Emirati women on the occasion of Emirati Women’s Day.

In a series of tweets, Shaikh Mohammad said: “As the UAE celebrates the Emirati Women’s Day, we celebrate the achievements of the Mother of the Nation Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, who supported and empowered women.

Shaikha Fatima is a symbol and role model and the Emirati woman are also symbol and example in the region. I am very proud of Arab and Emirati women as well as all Arab girls, Shaikh Mohammad tweeted.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also congratulated Emirati women on the Emirati Women’s Day.

Shaikh Mohammad tweeted: “With many achievements, Emirati women’s perseverance, ambitious spirit and contribution to our nation are self-evident.

Women are the heart of the nation and integral to its progress. They’re capable and empowered leaders who can take our nation to new heights.

The mothers of martyrs will be immortalised in history; their sacrifice, patriotism will always be a great inspiration for us all.”

Held in recognition of the contribution of the nation’s women, and their role in the development and advancement of the country, the 3rd Emirati Women’s Day is being celebrated across the UAE under the theme “Women are partners in Giving”,

Shaikha Fatima had chosen August 28 as the Emirati Women’s Day, to celebrate the establishment of the General Women’s Union on August 28, 1975.
