Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Monday issued two laws and a decree regulating the activities of various organisations.

The first decree issued by Dr Shaikh Sultan was Law No 7 of 2015 regulating the Sharjah Education Council. The law stipulates that the council enjoys a judicial standing and legal capacity required to discharge all acts that serve its objectives.

As per the law, the council will be tasked with contributing to the development of an advanced educational system that is in line with highest international standards. It will also be responsible for preparing students who are loyal to their national identity, Arabic and Islamic culture and traditions, and who are well educated and able to contribute to the UAE’s sustainable development, and other duties.

Dr Shaikh Sultan also issued Law No 8 of 2015 on regulation, powers and functions of the Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority.

The authority’s duties include, among others, proposing regulations and requirements that are essential to ensure prevention of accidents in utilities and other risks that these facilities, their users or occupants may face. It will recommend criteria for regulating the inspection of facilities, and training and qualifying human resources that are capable of operating and managing prevention and risk management systems to protect public safety.

Dr Shaikh Sultan also issued Emiri Decree No 51 of 2015 reorganising the Sharjah Media Corporation (SMC). The decree stipulates the specialisations and duties of the corporation in drawing up a media plan for the emirate as per the UAE’s general media policy and in coordination with the relevant federal bodies. It will also be responsible for putting in place plans for regulating the media sector in a way that helps the corporation achieve its objectives.
