Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday received Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, President of Turkmenistan, at Al Diyafa Palace.
General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, was present.
Upon arrival, President Berdimuhamedow was accorded an official reception ceremony in which the national anthems of the two countries were played. Later, Berdimuhamedow inspected the guard of honour and was given a 21-gun salute.
The Turkmenistan president was accompanied by a honourary delegation led by Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs.
Later, Shaikh Khalifa and Berdimuhamedow held discussions on various topics. Shaikh Khalifa welcomed the visit of Berdimuhamedow and his accompanying delegation, and expressed his wishes for the visit to contribute to enhancing relations and mutual cooperation between UAE and Turkmenistan, as well as expanding avenues of cooperation in various fields.
Shaikh Khalifa and Berdimuhamedow discussed ways to strengthen and develop tie to increase growth and achieve development for the mutual benefit of both countries. They also spoke about strengthening the relationship between the GCC and central Asia countries due to the strategic importance of both regions. The leaders’ talks also touched on a number of current regional and international developments of mutual concern. Shaikh Khalifa and Berdimuhamedow emphasised the importance of regional and international cooperation to strengthen peace and security in the region.
Shaikh Khalifa expressed his happiness at the developments achieved by UAE-Turkmenistan relations, and said that such developments would lead to positive outcomes in driving forward these relations to even higher levels that accomplish goals pertaining to consolidating economic and investment partnerships between the two countries for the mutual benefit of their people.
Berdimuhamedow congratulated Shaikh Khalifa on the occasion of the UAE’s 42nd National Day and Dubai’s victory in hosting World Expo 2020.
Shaikh Khalifa and Berdimuhamedow then witnessed the signing of several memorandums of understanding between various government bodies from both countries.
Present during the meeting were Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region, Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, Mohammad Ahmad Al Murr, Speaker of the Federal National Council, and other Shaikhs and senior officials.
