Abu Dhabi: (WAM) Upon the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and follow up by Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, urgent relief assistance will be delivered by the Khalifa Foundation to the victims of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Afghanistan on Monday.

An official source at the Foundation said the UAE embassy in Kabul would coordinate the purchase of relief supplies — foodstuff, tents and covers — from the local market to ensure swift delivery to the victims of the earthquake which struck north-east Afghanistan at a depth of 196 km and 82 km away from the Hindu Kush mountain range.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani said the death toll has risen to 115 with at least 538 wounded. A girls’ school also collapsed, killing 12 students.
