Abu Dhabi: A plane carrying a Libyan family of eight, as well as Yemenis injured by Al Houthi attacks, arrived in the UAE early yesterday morning (Wednesday).

The move comes as per the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The injured Yemenis were transported to Al Mafraq Hospital and Al Ain Hospital to receive the necessary treatment. The ambulances transporting the injured from the airport to hospitals were equipped with advanced medical equipment.

An official source said that the arrival of injured Yemenis falls within the framework of a humanitarian initiative by Shaikh Khalifa, and in light of the strong relations between the people of UAE and Yemen. The source said that this is the first batch of evacuated families and injured Yemenis to arrive, and added that other batches will follow to boost the UAE’s humanitarian response to people affected by events in Yemen.

The move comes as a show of solidarity with the Yemeni people, and is an extension of the UAE’s humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemenis and help them face the rebellious Al Houthi group. It also falls within the UAE’s humanitarian relief programme. The programme provides food and medical aid in order to improve humanitarian conditions in Yemen. The programme is carried out in cooperation and coordination with regional and international humanitarian organisations currently operating in Yemen.

The Libyan family was evacuated from Yemen after they were stranded due to the deteriorating security condition in the country.

The Libyan family will be provided with everything they require during their stay in the UAE and until their return to Libya. They were received upon their arrival by Ezz Al Deen Abdul Mawla, First Secretary at the Libyan Embassy, and a number of officials from health authorities.

Mawla expressed his heartfelt thanks to Shaikh Khalifa, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed for their continued support to the Libyan people. The family expressed their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the UAE for this humanitarian gesture.
