Abu Dhabi: A two-day government training programme highlighted the importance of having an educated and developed diplomatic community of UAE citizens which, in turn, would benefit the country in its international relations.

The course was organised in partnership between the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) and the Emirates Competitiveness Council, and was attended by top Abu Dhabi government officials from several departments.

“This programme marks the first steps in what we hope will be a long-lasting relationship between the Emirates Diplomatic Academy and the Emirates Competitiveness Council as we look to develop future leaders to represent the UAE on the global stage. It also served as a significant opportunity to share the competitive advantages of the UAE with the participants,” said Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Secretary-General of the Emirates Competitiveness Council.

“We are keen to build strong partnerships and strategic relationships with various stakeholders associated with competitiveness and contribute towards raising the ranking of the UAE in global reports and indicators,” he added.

Mariam Al Mahmoud, Director of Executive Education at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy, echoed the same sentiments. “The UAE continues to rank among the world’s most competitive countries, and we hope that with the establishment of the EDA and wide range of programmes we’ll be offering that we will continue to consistently improve our rating looking ahead.”

Established in 2014 by the UAE’s leadership, the EDA aims to educate and prepare the next generation of Emirati diplomats to help support the country’s foreign policy and standing in the world community.

Earlier this month the academy also announced that its first full-time postgraduate diploma course would begin in September with the first batch of Emirati students enrolled in the nine-month programme.
