Ajman: Five suspects were arrested in Ajman on charges of robbing bank customers, Ajman Police said on Monday.

The five men of African nationality, were arrested within 24 hours of committing a crime.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police, said the suspects monitored customers who withdrew money from banks and then robbed them.

The suspects specifically targeted customers who withdrew cash, put it in an envelope, and placed the envelope on the front right seat of their car.

The arrest was made after police received a complaint from an Asian man who was targeted by the suspects. The man had withdrawn Dh20,000 from a bank in Ajman, placed the cash in his car which he parked near his workplace when the suspects broke his car’s window and stole the cash.

The gang then replaced their vehicle’s plate number to misguide police, but the police set a trap and caught the gang. A sum of Dh15,000 was found in their possession at the time of the arrest and during questioning, the men admitted their involvement in several such robberies in Ajman.

Col. Al Matroushi hailed the efforts of the CID officers for arresting the men within 24 hours.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution.
