Abu Dhabi: The Federal National Council (FNC) Speaker and members have registered on the UAE Volunteers platform.

The platform aims to register 200,000 volunteers by the end of the year.

Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, FNC Speaker, said: “The UAE’s role in the field of volunteerism is historic, and promoting a culture of giving and increasing awareness on volunteerism to the UAE people is a duty. As such, our wise leadership, which adopted a leading volunteering role in the UAE, has cemented this culture of giving.”

She highlighted that the national volunteer platform aims to spread and consolidate the concept of social responsibility, create an integrated and sustainable system for volunteer work, and instil the values of volunteerism as an important pillar of social cohesion.

Dr Al Qubaisi emphasised that the FNC will spare no effort in supporting voluntary works and spreading the culture of volunteerism by exercising its legislative and supervisory powers through its various objectives and initiatives, especially in the 2016-2021 Strategic Plan. The FNC will be an active partner in reaffirming the giving stance the wise leadership, led by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has taken.

“The Federal National Council highly values the launch of the UAE Volunteers Platform, which is a practical embodiment of this year’s #Year of Giving, launched by Shaikh Khalifa,” she said.

“As the first individuals to register on the platform, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, have reconfirmed our wise leadership’s commitment to giving and volunteerism,” she added.

“The FNC expresses its strong confidence that the national platform for volunteering will be well received by all segments of society, who live in a country whose values of goodwill were emphasised and instilled by the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Individuals now have an opportunity to volunteer with the presence of an institutional umbrella to assist them,” Dr Al Qubaisi continued.

“We are honoured to announce that all FNC members have joined this national effort. This move was preceded by the 18th meeting of the council held on Tuesday, and confirms the FNC’s commitment to this initiative,” she added.

“The council calls on all members of society to register as volunteers on the platform, considered the most comprehensive in the country, and presents voluntary opportunities in 14 social and humanitarian fields that volunteers can choose from,” the FNC Speaker concluded.
