Abu Dhabi: Emergency response and disaster prevention will be highlighted during the largest homeland security conference taking place in the capital on March 15-17, the Ministry of Interior announced.

The seventh edition of the International Exhibition for National Security and Resilience (ISNR) 2016 will also feature the Firefighter Challenge where firemen and women from around the world compete in a series of physical competitions.

Taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), ISNR’s newly added Emergency Response and Disaster Prevention (EMDI) exhibition marks the first event in the Gulf of its kind for land, sea and air crises.

Major General Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the ISNR Abu Dhabi 2016, said: “The Middle East’s homeland security market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 18.7 per cent by 2020, three times the global average, driven by positive results.”

This is driven primarily by economic diversification and massive scale-up in infrastructure projects such as the new passenger terminal at Abu Dhabi Airport, in addition to hosting mega-events, such as the Dubai Expo 2020 in the UAE and the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.

He also explained that the exhibition is the third biggest international exhibition and conference on national defence in the world.

He said, “Regional mega-events alone are driving infrastructure investment of up to $700 billion between now and 2020. These investments include residential and commercial construction, transportation infrastructure and public utilities, all of which must be protected with advanced security systems and solutions.”

Major General Al Raisi also explained that the ISNR Abu Dhabi is a dedicated comprehensive platform for countries from around the world to view and source the world’s latest homeland security solutions. It enables attendees to meet suppliers and conduct commercial deals.

“In future, emergency response services will need to communicate more effectively with citizens and other service providers, deliver real-time situational awareness of incidents and provide better predictive risk analysis, to help prevent incidents and mitigate their damage,” said Nicky Dawson, Group Exhibition Director of ISNR Abu Dhabi in a statement.

“EMDI is a must-attend event for anybody working in this vital field, as it will allow them to keep abreast of the latest regional and international trends, and help to develop knowledge and understanding in the industry,” he added.

This year’s ISNR is expecting over 20,000 visitors and will include around 500 exhibitors in 20,000 square-metres at ADNEC.
