Sharjah: Fatima Ali Al Muhairi has been announced as the first woman in one of the 21 seats on the Sharjah Consultative Council.

Al Muhairi, who won the only seat in Al Hamriya with 134 votes, said her victory is a tribute to women in the emirate of Sharjah, who are constantly being empowered by His Highness Shaikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

“Shaikh Sultan’s support and empowerment of women has raised society’s awareness of what women are capable of, which is why I won this seat today,” she said.

In Al Batayeh district, Awad Mesbah Mubarak Obaid won the seat with 99 votes.

In Al Madam, Abdullah Matar Khalifa Al Ketbi won a seat in with 358 votes.

In Al Meliha, Khalifa Humaid Tameem Al Ketbi won a seat with 163.

In Al DhaidSaleh Mohammad Al Qabed Al Tunaiji won with 282 votes, followed by Mohammad Salem Bin Huwaidin Al Ketbi won with 169 votes, and Mohammad Abdullah Nomah Al Ketbi, with 145 votes. 

In Khorfakkan, Abdullah Ibrahim Moussa Abdullah was announced as a winner with 683 votes, Ahmed Abdullah Al Jarah Al Hammadi won with 518 votes and Rashid Saeed Al Hanawi Al Naqbi won with 339 votes.

In Dibba Al Hisn, Abdullah Mohammad Ibrahim Al Tunaiji won with 393 votes and Rashid Khalfan Obaid Al Salami won with 228 votes.

In Kalba district, Abdullah Mourad Meerza Abdul Nabi won with 566; followed by Khalid Ali Al Gheeli Al Zaabi, 271; and Mohammad Essa Youssef Al Darmaki 207.

There are six council seats available for Sharjah city, while nine seats are distributed evenly between Al Dhaid, Khor Fakkan and Kalba.

There are two seats for Dibba Al Hisn, while Al Hamriya, Al Batayeh, Mleiha and Al Madam have one seat each.

Winners for the six council seats in Sharjah were also announced.

Abdullah Ibrahim Duaifis Al Muhairi won with a landslide 305 votes.

Hamad Salem Hamoodah Ejtebi got 257 votes, followed by Mohammad Jema Bin Hindi Al Shuwaihi, who won with 218 votes.

Shaheen Eshak Ismail Al Mazmi garnered 212 votes, Mohammad Omar Youssef Al Dokhi won with 190 votes, while Jassem Mohammad Hassan Al Beloushi won with 182 votes. 

The counting process began on Sunday night at Al Qasimia University and continued until all winners were determined. The counting was broadcast live on various TV channels and media outlets of the Sharjah Media Corporation.
