Dubai: The UAE embassy on Monday confirmed that no Emiratis were injured in the “major incident” after an explosion and building collapse took place in Leicester, a central English city.

On its Twitter page, the UAE Embassy advised citizens living in Leicester to stay away from the accident site and to avoid crowded places.

The embassy also urged UAE citizens and students to contact them on +44 2075 811 281 in the event of an emergency, and issued a reminder to register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s Twajudi service when abroad. 

According to local police, an explosion and a building fire was reported at 7pm (11pm UAE) that critically injured at least four people on Sunday.

AFP also reported that initial investigations indicated there was no connection to terrorism.
