Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued Decree No. (6) of 2015 forming the board of Dubai Women Establishment (DWE). The decree was issued by Shaikh Mohammad in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai.

Shaikha Manal Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment and wife of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the support of Shaikh Mohammad and his efforts to empower women as equal partners in the community.

Shaikha Manal stated that Shaikh Mohammad’s support has always motivated Emirati woman to excel both locally and internationally.

Shaikha Manal Bint Mohammad wished the DWE’s new board all success during its term to work towards a greater role and impact of the establishment at both the local and regional levels.

Pursuant to the decree, the new board will have Mona Al Merri as Chairperson and Managing Director and Hala Yousuf Badri as Vice-Chairperson. Members of the Board are Huda Eisa Bu Humaid, Khowla Rashid Al Muhairi, Hana Abdul Wahed Al Rostamani, Huda Saeed Naeem Al Hashemi, Lamis Mohammad Hamdan Al Shamsi, Muna Bu Samra, Lubna Qasim Bastaki. The term of the new board is three years and renewable.

The decree is considered valid from the date of its issuance and will be published in the Official Gazette.

The DWE was established in 2006 following directives from Shaikh Mohammad. The establishment encourages and facilitates the participation of Emirati women in the workforce and society at large and its mandate includes extensive research to identify and quantify the status of women in the workforce of Dubai, as well as initiatives to ensure further development opportunities for women. The establishment also recommends awareness campaigns and policies that are conducive to women in the workforce that enable women to play greater roles within the UAE and at the global level.

Shaikh Mohammad also visited the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) on Sunday. He was briefed by the Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office Mona Al Merri, who briefed her on the organisation’s contributions and achievements with a view to enhancing the local government’s communications with local, regional and international media. Shaikh Mohammad was also briefed on the GDMO’s projects and initiatives for 2015.

Shaikh Mohammad directed the Media Office’s team to pursue innovation and unleash their creative thinking to come up with new ideas that support the country’s broad developmental ambitions. During his meeting with GDMO’s top management, Shaikh Mohammad praised the office’s efforts and expressed his appreciation for its strategy that empowers young UAE nationals and gives them the opportunity to participate in the field of media.
