Dubai: A total of Dh90 billion has been spent by Dubai government to develop infrastructure of road networks and transport systems in the last 10 years in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Saturday.

According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, around Dh40 billion has been spent on roads where the road network length increased from 8,715 lane-km in 2006 to 13,594 lane-km in 2016 and the number of tracks across the Dubai Creek have increased from 19 to 48 in the same period, an increase of 153 per cent.

He added that Dubai carried out many vital projects in last years including the Business Bay Crossing with 13 lanes, the new Garhoud Bridge with 14 lanes as well as the Floating Bridge with nine lanes.

Al Maktoum Bridge was also developed where the number of lanes were increased to nine while Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road was expanded from six lanes to 12. The Emirates Road has also gone through major development. It has now 12 lanes, 15 intersections and 12 tunnels, Al Tayer said.
